Situated in the picturesque Boskovická brázda, only 40 kilometres from Brno and very close to the Moravian Karst, the city of Boskovice offers a lot in terms of exploring or discovering, as well as fun and sports.
Getting to know the city
The Boskovice chateau is a key feature of the historical city centre. It includes the chateau complex, the Boskovice castle and hill, the main square with the Church of St James, the Jewish quarter with the Baroque synagogue, the residence and a former monastery (present-day Hotel Pod Zámkem).
Boskovice castle: a centuries-old dominant feature of the city offering a splendid view of Boskovická brázda. The first mention of the castle dates to 1312. In 1991 the castle was returned to the Mensdorff-Pouilly family, as was the chateau, but is now publicly accessible. You are cordially invited to visit the Boskovice castle.
The Jewish quarter and Jewish cemetery are precious landmarks you should not miss while walking around the city. Visit the local information centre to book a guided tour.
Museum of the Boskovice Region: the main seat of this regional museum can be found in the former count’s residence. It offers a large exhibition named “The land of the seven tooth comb” with a wooden model of the main square made by a local wood carver, valuable artefacts or interactive elements for children. They can try weaving or the work of a medieval scribe. The museum also administers the local Baroque synagogue where you can admire the breathtaking interiors or learn something about the history of the Jewish community in Boskovice. The Jewish community house offers a broader exhibition focused on Jewish quarters in general, including a mock-up of a flat of a rabbi and a matzo bakery.
Leisure and sporting activities
The City of Boskovice offers an outdoor pool and indoor spa, winter sports arena, soccer stadium, tennis courts and other facilities for numerous sporting activities.
